Dr. Warren Ferguson of Allied informed me that Allied had no records of which employees were involved in the original CMA vinyl chloride epidemiology study and it would not be worth the effort to try and go back and reconstruct the cohort. Mr. W. C. Carothers of Stauffer indicated that they may have records of some of their employees who terminated prior to the sale of the plant to Formosa. He indicated a willingness to provide you with information if the workers could be identified. This will allow us to pick up at least a few members of the cohort who otherwise would be lost to follow-up. Best regards. /rds Carol R. (Bill Hager, the former Employee Relations Manager has moved to another department.) Ms. Foraker advised me that Formosa does not have the employee records of'anyone who left the Delaware City facility before Stauffer sold that facility to Formosa in May 1981. She completed the worksheets for those people on whom she had information. However, she could not provide information on about two-thirds of the employee worksheets which we sent her. Unfortunately, most of the people were employees of Stauffer Chemical Com pany who had terminated their employ prior to the sale of this plant to Formosa Plastics in May of 1981. Stauffer Chemical took all records of former employees with them. Therefore, we are unable to supply any infor mation concerning these people. Washington, DC 20037 RE: Plant 3 (Formosa Plastics) in VC Study Dear Carol: After you informed us that the two Formosa Plastics plants would consider participation in the vinyl chloride study, we contacted both plants. Pat Loupe, Employee Relations manager at Formosa Plastics in Baton Rouge, advised us over the telephone that Allied Corporate handled the previous vinyl chloride study. He said that another longstanding employee at the Baton Rouge plant in Employee Relations remembers the study, but thinks the plant has no records of who participated in the study or any other information about the study. The problem is that the study records that we hold currently at EHA have no personal identifiers. Mr. Loupe suggested, therefore, that we or CMA should get in touch with Allied to see if they have a list of names, etc., of the cohort. If we could not get such a list, he would be willing to attempt matching records; however, he could not guess at the success or timeliness of that effort. I think it may be more appropriate for CMA to contact Allied. According to our file, the Allied Chemical corporate contacts were John M. Quinn and Warren S. Ferguson.
