SUBJECT! Comments on Specifications for Dead Creek Interceptor Sewer
Dear Mr. Ooldenbergi Cur Engineering Dept, has reviewed the drawings and specifications of the subject sewer and pieraping station as prepared by Homer and Shifrin. The design looks good generally. Them are several small items, however, which m believe should be re-examined. They are: (1) Corrosion at Junction Chamber - The concrete and steel bar
screen may suffer severe attack if exposed to aailie wastes for a considerable period. Ve suggest that the concrete be coated with asphalt or other protective raaterial and that the bar screens either be made of #316 stainless steel or be mounted (as in a channel in the concrete) so as to be e&nily replaced (2) Hydraulics at Junction Chaaber - Iclsras bead loss when wastes are flowing south into Deed Creek is desirable. . As designed the charaber will force the water to turn 90* to flow out through the bar screens. Will head loss be appreciable and, if eo, can it be reduced by placing the bar screen at the south end of the structure so that the turn is avoided T (3) Stability of Junction Charaber - will the Junction chamber be subject to frost heave? Also - in event of settlement, will the weight of the charaber be supported by the pipes? The same concern exists in relation te attachment of the pipes to the puoplng station - it appears that the pipes can be easily broken tey settlement ef the pump station. (t) 21" Overflew Line - This line is 'laid flat and at such an elevation that test liquids trill tend to be trapped. We suggest that ooneideraticn be given to raising this line

(4) slightly and giving it a little pitch so that it will normally be dry. '
(5) Two small typographical points (a) On page 11-17 of the spoor, "20-inch" VCP in referred to - should retd "21-inch". (b) On page 1-13, last sentence shows head range as "6 feet minimum to 16 feet maximum". We believe minimum level should be about 9 feet.
We assume that Cerro is examining the project to assure that it will relieve all of their flooding problems.
Very truly yours.
