PLAINTIFF'S EXHIBIT
Dear John:
The three bulk samples and 17 air filter cassettes you mailed to me from Framingham, Massachusetts following a boiler explosion have been analyzed for asbestos.
Bulk Sample Analysis
All bulk samples were analyzed by using x-ray diffraction analytical techniques.
Sample number 1, labeled "Refractory from Boiler", contained no asbestos. This sample appeared to be cement and consisted primarily of small stones. The principal chrystalline component is aluminum silicate. The principal chrystalline components of sample number 2, labeled "Breech Covering", were fiberglass and chrysotile asbestos. The principal chrystalline component of sample number 3, labeled "Breech Covering", is chrysotile asbestos.

All samples taken at 350 Cochituate Road, Framingham, Mass.
Per our telephone discussion regarding the air filter cassette analysis, I suggest you talk to Millipore because something must be wrong with this batch of filters. To familiarize yourself with the difference between the filter and filter pad, you should take apart some cassettes. Before sampling, you could then make a determination as to whether or not that cassette contains a filter.
If you have any further questions about this analysis, please give me a call at (201) 582-7512.
