About 15 or more years ago, Ed Barnes and I felt that when capacitor inerteen was heated to more thon,,50C that local exhaust ventilation should be provided. In your SZ letter of October 23, 1959 you indicated that local exhaust ventilation should be provided for Aroclors when heated above 150*F. This question has recently arisen with respect to one of our repair shops in the Midwest. I notice in your Bulletin O-P-115 for Aroclors a temperature of 200-300*0 may be reached before local exhaust ventilation needs to be provided. ThiB appears on page 19. I doubt very much that this temperature is correct and it seems to be for in excess of what actual good industrial hygiene practice should in dicate. I believe that some person's attention should be called to the fact that this value is higher than you would recommend to customers and that it should be corrected downward, because this information causes misunderstand ing between manufacturing personnel and industrial hygiene engineers. Normally, we have asked our people to prevent prolonged skin con tact with the Aroclors and to use a good grade of neoprene coated gloves when necessary. Recently, the question with respect to a fairly desirable hand cream was raised. I would like to know your recommendation for one of the Fend creams supplies by Mine Safety Appliances Co., since we feel they market a very good line of creams and we have strongly recommended the Fend line of hand creams for a number of years. Since these liquid Aroclors are of an oily nature, it is my opinion that Fend I or Fend S would not be as desirable protection as Fend F. I will greatly appreciate your comments.
