This originally was to be done with a letter only, but may now include attachments. I do not think a MSDS should be sent with the letter. The handling and safety information contained on the MSDS is generally relevant to "normal intended use" situations and it contains only a general warning as to combustion products. This would not seem to add to the intended purpose of the letter as I understand it. However, several of the Vinyl Institute "white paper" bulletins specifically address this issue and would be relevant attachments, if attachments are to be used. Those would be, COMBUSTION GASES OF VARIOUS BUILDING MATERIALS, COMBUSTION PROPERTIES OF PVC, and COMBUSTION TOXICITY TESTING. In a fire situation it generates carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, hydrogen chloride and other toxic gases. Exposure to these combustion products may be fatal. We urge you to make this information available to your employees and customers. PVC is a safe, useful product when the proper precautions are employed in its use.
