Ding recounted briefly the progress made'in accident prevention, in the shipyards -of the nation during the past six months. He emphasized the growing necessity for-conserving man power in the yards. Be told of the effort now being made to establish the system of preplaceaent physical examinations so .sorely needed for the proper placing of physically substandard men, Ant. the women and minors, now almost the only replacement labor available. . Plans for a meeting of shipyard safety directors to be held at Chicago In conjunction with the national Safety Council ware revealed. Says recommended that Technical Bulletin Humber 76 of the Department-of labor on induction programs be studi-v -by all. The discussion developed the belief that a sound -- strip film could bo made to ' supplement the instruct lone given for each individual yard, the filir. to Include most of the following points: Introduction to safety; management responsibility to provide safe working place; the employe^, responsibility to obey Safety Rules and Regulations; the crew l e a d e r part In accident prevention; first-aid rales; personal protective equipment and proper attire; handling materials; housekeeping; be havior in the yard; sanitation and health; reporting unsafe condition Suggestions welcome from all workers. - . i I The last hour of the meeting was devoted to an open forms discussion of the following questions; Women in Shipyards: Dr. Poos, McDonald, Terry, Griffith, Pry, Ventilation System and Results of Poor Tentllation; . Boss, Anderson, Stiles, Dr. Poos, Roche, .Thompson, Johnson.
