Because of the fact that I took a little vacation, I have been delayed this long in answering it, but I must add also that I wanted to think about it a little. Having once had a job somewhat similar to yours and having learned all the frustrations and efforts involved in the production and proceedings of such a conference, I know how much labor and frustration is involved. Having had to do also at some time or other with people from relatively weird countries, I' fully appreciate the information you have given me about Dr. Beritic. We do have a duty to develop or to assist in the development of countries in special situations. Your justification seems to be entirely adequate. Finally, I should say that I don't consider the question of a special issue an entirely closed one. Mr. Robert Mayo, the Executive Managing Editor, is going to be in my office a week from today to discuss some of the things I need to know and at that time I will raise with him again the problem of a special issue. I think I can summarize what has been said up to this time with the statement that if the funds can be made available some type of publication such as you suggest may be possible. At any rate, I will discuss it with Mr. Mayo, try to learn the costs and pass the word along to you. In the meantime, if you can let me know how great are the possibilities of obtaining the necessary funding and how soon that funding might be made available, I shall be very much obliged to you. 0019403 I Robert A.
