Dear Dr. Daviesi ' During the last two months our medical staff completed examinations on- 27 hourly and salaried workers who were engaged in the manufac ture of polychlorinated biphenyl in our Sauget, Illinois Plant. /Thesc 27 workers had various lengths of service in the department. The shortest va* six months and the longest was 12 years. The average time in the department was slightly over fivo years. Of these 27 individuals 1C had no detoctable PCD1s in the blood , (using a method sensitive to 0.1 ppm) fivo had o.l ppm, two had 0.2 pjsa, two had 0.3 ppm, one had 0.4 ppm, and ono had 0.5 ppm. . Clinical examinations were entirely negative. Laboratory examinations including blood counts and hematocrit, and clinical chemistries in cluding glucose, urea nitrogen, creatinine, uric acid, calcium phosphorus, SCOT, SGPT, LDH, alkalino phosphatase, bilirubin, cholesterol and total protein, showed no pattern of illness. There were some random high cholesterols, one high hemoglobin and ono low hemoglobin. In only ono case was the SCOT and SGPT elevatod but , this individual showed no detectable PCD in his blood.
