METHODS AND MATERIALS
This investigation was performed at the aquatic toxicology
laboratory of Bionomics, ;Inc., Wareham, Massachusetts. The
susceptibility of rainbowj trout (Salroo. gajrdneri) to 8233
(a light brown liquid tested as 100?S active) was measured in terms of the median tolerjance limit (TLeoL the nominal
concentration of the chema.cal 3.n water which causes 50 percent
response (death) under this t^sit conditioi'Ha during a specified
time interval. The prediction of a TI.c value, and its 95?g confidencp interval, was jbasedon conversion of the concentrations

edition of Standard Methods(APHA) except for those conditions
described below.

The rainbow trout used ji-n these tests were obtained from a commercial fish hatchery in Massachusetts and had a mean weight of 1.3 g and a mpan length of 58 mm. The test population
was held in the laboratpry hatchery facilities for at least
30 days prior to testing and during this period mortality was <?.%. Static bioassays ^ere conducted in 5-gallon glasc vessels
held in constant temperature water baths at lie (^ 1.0). The
vessels were not aerate^, and there was a single introduction
of the test compound into the test y^ae},s. A solvent control, utilizing the greatest amount of Isopjc'bpyi alcohol contained in any test vessel, was i'conducted. ..fifth were acclimated to the test system containing ^echnstitUtted Waiter as the standard diluent for at least 24|hours prior to testing.
