My estia&te is based upon the assumption, vhioh Z believe to be true, that the statis tics of the Census Bureau oovers all the paint Manufac turers in the united States, whereas the lead in oil sta tistioe of the Bureau of Mines are confined to a list of companies stipulated in the report and which correspond to the members of the Lead industries Association, except DuPont. By private correspondence Z have learned from the Census Bureau that the rasaber of companies covered by their statistics totals 98 whereas hy actual count the com panies covered by the Bureau of rinse report total seven for 1931. My conclusions are, as the table indicates, the amount of lead in oil sold by companies who are not memhere of the Lead Industries Association is very small, in 1933 1 celleve the tonnage was negligible and for earlier years varied between 5 and 9i per cent.
