OSHA Progress Report - July, 1983
1. Summaries of personnel and area monitoring conducted during the month are presented in the attached tables and figures.
2. Spot ventilation for the lab's extruders is just about completed. The operators are already noting a big improvement in odor and fume levels.
3. An operator in Compound B/438 became nauseous and had difficulty breathing for a short period of time due to exposure to ethyl acrylate fumes. The fumes originated from a plugged condenser in Hydrophilics B/437 which is next to B/438. The condenser was cleaned to stop the immediate problem. To avoid future problems, the condensers will be routinely cleaned after 20 charges and will also be inspected quarterly.
4. Results of antimony monitoring conducted toward the end of June show the new dust collection system on the B/426 CML t^ be keeping exposure levels below the allowable limit of 500 >ug/mJ (see attached personnel monitoring summary). The new system has also significantly reduced nuisance dust levels associated with Estane 58360 manufacture.
5. \ Annual training in the OSHA VCM Standard has begun.
6. The allowable concentration for lead exposure has been changed to 200 /Ug/m to reflect the fact that lead is being handled less than thirty times/year. Should lead usage increase, the allowable will -be reduced accordingly.
