Patching Compounds Still Sold with Asbestos (w/Warning)
To get confirmation of May report of Georgia Pacific's continued use of asbestos with warning labels, I called up the local building products sales office of the company. Mike Bartosh said that Ready-Mix Joint Compound does contain a label to warn of asbestos hazards (322-2270). A review of the file shows that Wards sells Bondex International patching com pounds. M[y note on carbon of 5/17 letter to Furnari of Wards states that their joint sealing compound carries labeling noting the presence of asbestos; no label on spackle compound. Bondex International's "Metro" spackling compound had 4-6$ tremolite asbestos when examined by Art Rohl (letter from Rohl to Bondex attached to my note of 4/14/76)
Earliest report of use of warning label was Rutland Fire Clay Co. letter to
Raftery, 6/10/75* attached to my note og 4/14/76,
