George, who has accepted the ap pointment of Chief Medical Officer to the Australia-wide organisation of Con solidated Zinc Pty. l-td. Dr. George's mi first concern will be to inspect the Group's various activities, in order to familiarise himself with existing con ditions. He will then proceed on an overseas tour, and after a thorough in vestigation will be making recommenda- t i e n s on the prevention o f industrial disease and the improvement, where necessary^ of working conditions. Dr. George has already encountered a number of Z.C. personnel during recent underground inspections, under taken as part of his observation pro gramme. But to very many Broken Hill citizens he is well known through his previous long experience with local in dustry. He first came to Broken Hill in 1923, shortly after the Technical Com mission which led to the establishment list 'v 'B : of the Bureau of Medical Inspection, and for some time he assisted the then Government Medical Officer, Dr. Fin- Iayson. In 1926 he assumed full res ponsibility for the local Bureau, and he continued here until 1947. In that period he made extensive in vestigations into industrial diseases. In 1930 and 1938, he attended I.L.O. con ferences on pneumoconiosis at Johan nesburg and Geneva as N.S.W. Govern published by the N.S.W. Government.
