Even though New England sits on the doorstep of one of the world's largest natural gas fields, the region's infrastructure is not expanding at the necessary pace. According to a study by ISO New England, "given the region's current and growing reliance on natural gas, limitations on the region's natural gas delivery infrastructure are the most significant component of New England's fuel-security risk." My op-ed in the Providence Journal discusses this study and how it aligns with our own report "What if Pipelines Aren't Built in the Northeast" released last year, which stresses the need for additional natural gas (and oil) pipelines into New England to provide affordable and reliable energy to consumers and businesses. Our report discusses how a lack of energy infrastructure in New England has led to residential electricity prices that are 44 percent higher than the U.S. average and how without pipeline infrastructure, New England will lose more than 78,000 jobs and $7.6 billion in regional GDP by 2020. New England needs modern infrastructure to compete. Energy infrastructure is no exception. Sierra Club v.
