ITEM NUMBER STANDARD, REGULATION OR SECTION OF THE ACT VIOLATED; DESCRIPTION DATE BY WHICH VIOLATION MUST BE CORRECTED PENALTY The violations described in this citation are alleged to have occurred on or about the day the inspection was made unless otherwise indicated within the description given below. 1 29 CFR 1910.1001(f)(1): Initial monitoring was not conducted in such a manner to determine whether every employee's exposure to airborne asbestos fibers is below the prescribed limits: (a) Old acid plant area where employees removed asbestos insulation from the sides of old vessel. 29 CFR 1910.1001(j)(3): The employer did not provide or make available to each employee engaged in occupations exposed to air borne levels of asbestos, a comprehensive annual medical examination: (a) Zinc Casting Department where employees were exposed to airborne levels of asbestos. Medical examination performed did not include pulmonary function tests. (b) Old acid plant area where employees removed asbestos insulation from the side of an old vessel. Employees were exposed to airborne asbestos fibers and were given medical examinations which did not include pulmonary function tests.
