A special letter was drafted asking for economic data respecting industrial hygiene in general and the Foundation in particular. This was sent to a dozen selected firms. We called upon Mr. Hesse, Vice President and Treasurer of National Steel. He declined action on membership, referring us to three Individuals, one in Velrton Steel and the others in Great Lakes Steel, both subsidiaries. Dr. Selby of General Motors wrote in response to our Inquiry saying that he believed General Motors would affiliate. This will be followed up. Meanwhile, Plaskon Company joined. We checked with Mr. Zimmerman of the Foundation* s Board, requesting that the Foundation be given official representation on the American Standards Association committee which deals with safe limits for toxic materials in industry. Mr. Zimmerman is president of the A.S.A. We arranged with Prof. Hatch to make an emergency visit to Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company* s Barberton, Ohio operations where a fatality occurred. Chlorine was reported as a possible cause. IRON AGE carried our trustee-election story and the NATIONAL UNDERWRITER carried a "brief" on Mr. Waters* legal report of last November.
