Review of progress: 2,1 (VM): Air drying the starch-bonded boards improves the strength but is not equivalent to correct heat-curing. 2.2 (AS): (VM): Dewatering tine with Anioca M5432 war sane as EP5297 (paper, non asbestos) and sane as PROFAX 31. It nay be longer if both paper and starch used, l.e., with EP5297 plus starch. 2.3 (AS): Lab tests showed that replacing PF resin with M5432 gave: 324 psl with 2.4X PF + 2.4X M5432; 474 psi with 2.4X PF + 41 M&32; 296 psl with OX PF + 5X M5432; 287 psl with OX PF + 7X M5432. Agreed Co use 2.4X PF + 2.4X M5432 for current trials. 1.5X PF -I- 4X M5432 nay be O.X. later. 2.4 (WCF): Marketing unhappy about P-31 being used for test at Middletown. We will use EP 5297 for next test. One pallet of forner is ready to ship. A pallet of latter will be ready late p.n. today. Both will ship. HDW and MW infomed. 2.5 (WCF): Also today, Monday, we will nake casting boards in P-31 plus M5432 for both #299 (J&L Aliqulppa) and #386 (OSS E. Thomson). GHF will follow up with Sales for fit, hot molds and pouring tests. 2.6 (WCF): 2.7 On Tuesday, 8/14, we will make #685 (Copperweld) in P-31 -t- M5432 to test starch-bonded boards for fit and in hot molds. The K-4 machine will be used if tool O.X. If not, the 'B' machine will be used. For current tests, two pallets of each board will be run. Later tests will extend this to complete shifts and then 24 hours, but we need some. Sales feedback on the product before staking larger quantities. (VCF): We are building a flexometer for testing complete boards. 2.9 (AS): Resin and starch costs (c/lb.): PF vas 17.25, is now 24, will soon be 34; UF is 20; 269 is 8; M5432 is 15. (VM): We should consider also: DF liquid and UF/PF copolymers. PAP restated the priority of the binder tests over the asbestos-free program (except EP5297) but agreed to some discussion with Engineering on possible machine modifications to reduce settling of solids and improve forming with recipes such as EP5273.
