LINING GRIND ELIMINATION PROCRAH
Both Eaton Brake Division plants' currently grind the shoe and lining assembly
after riveting to assure a quick burnish of the'1 lrtln<5 to= the' drum .during- .
the FMVSS 121 dyno burnish. This Is particularly critical for the high friction
linings because they do('not wear quickly at the 5.00F burnish temperature like
medium friction linings.' Engineering and Manufacturing Services have been working on a program to'elImlha'te the requirement'for grinding by improving the dimensional consistency of our shoes. The potential cost savings are obvious
#when you consider the projected need for add11Iona 1 'grinders for additional
capacity, the cost and difficulty of disposing of the grinding dust, ahd the 'cch^y'
and difficulty of limiting our-employees1 exposure to the grinding dust. TIpsX, '
target Is to eliminate the grinding by January, 1980.
