As you know, Pydraul 312 contains polychlorinated biphenyls (FCBe) as major fire resistant components. PCBs have been the subject or considerable interest regarding their build-up and impact on the environment. Interest in PCBs by various governmental agencies has been considerable and has resulted in the formation of an Interdepartmental task force to evaluate PCBs. In May, 1972 the task force Issued a report summarising the FCB study. I have enclosed a copy In the event you have not seen it. In our desire to reduce the entry of FCBe into the environ ment we discontinued the sale of Pydraul 312 and have now replaced it with a fluid which contains no chlorinated hydrocarbons. This reformulation of Pydrauls la wellknown to all potential users of fire resistant hydraulic fluids and I personally doubt that any would be interested in the purchase of your material. With all this concern over PCBs and the environment I strongly recommend that you dispose of the used Pydraul 312 by incineration In a unit designed to reach the high temperatures required. You stay wish to consider sending your material to Monsanto for disposal. The cost of disposal is five centB per pound received.
