Vandenberg SUBJECT: Asbestos Disposal I had a conversation today with Charlie Brown and he informs me that a considerable amount of asbestos insulation is being stripped in the Silanes Department. His concern is that we have run out of roan to bury any more asbestos in the present burial location. He would like to know where to put this recent "flood" of asbestos that must be buried on a daily basis. Walsh DATE: April 24, 1987 SUBJECT: Asbestos Survey of Poly I Office Area April 24 A preliminary study and test of area samples indicate that the ceiling in the Computer Control Room contains no asbestos fibers, however there is about H" of "mud" on top of the ceiling that contains sand particles and some very small fibers which should be considered as asbestos. The utility lines that can be seen from the computer room have very bad asbestos insulation that has come loose and is laying on the top of the ceiling, causing the whole crawl space between the ceiling and the roof to be contaminated over the entire office area. A sample was taken from a hole in the ceiling board in Larry Smiths' office. No asbestos was found. Both samples were run by Van McCool in our lab. I suggest that an air monitor be set up in the computer control room and an area sample be taken. I have contacted the Safety Department to do this on Monday, April 27, 1987. In order to strip this ceiling out the office area and control room area will have to be down for a minimum of two weeks. If I can be of any further assistance, please contact me at Ext. 359.
