Verhage/De Pere SUBJECT: Noise Survey and Asbestos Sampling 0*23t73 The results of the noise and asbestos monitoring conducted at TEC Systems on August 10 and 11, 1982, are indicated below and on the attached sheets. A brief summary of these results indicates: (1) asbestos levels are extremely low, and (2) employee noise exposures are quite variable and, at times, can exceed the short-term allowable limit of 115 dBA. Asbestos Monitoring Sample Job Description WI-1 Tadpoling WI-2 Inserting asbestos gaskets WI-3 Inserting asbestos gaskets Results <0.02 fiber/cc <0.23 fiber/cc <0.04 fiber/cc No visible asbestos fibers were seen for samples WI-1 and WI-2; and the numerical values depicted represent the lower limit of detection for the sampling duration. Only one visible fiber was seen for sample WI-3 and it was outside the microscope counting field. Due to the extremely low levels (if any) of airborne asbestos fiber, the medical monitoring requirements of OSHA's asbestos regulations (29 CFR 1910.1001) are not applicable. I recommend that monitoring only be done at two to three year intervals or whenever there is a process change in the handling of any asbestos-containing materials.
