Dr. Cecil K. Drinker, Harvard University, 55 Van Dyke St., Boston, Mass.
Dear Dr. Drinker:
I am enclosing herewith a pamphlet on "Lead
Poisoning - Its Chief .Causes", etc., which we have distributed from the State Department of Health for a number of years and have revised to July, 1925.
I found that I could not agree aatirely with
some of the opinions regarding what constitutes lead poisoning as brought out at the recent Pittsburgh Conference (April 20th) and hence this initiative on my part. I still believe many persons are diagiosing this condition too frequently on a history of exposure associated with almost any sort of symptoms but wi Hi out specific enough findings to warrant a diagnosis of lead poisoning. Lead absorption is a somewhat different matter and I question whether it has any peculiar symptomatology, - it would appear to be potential lead poisoning only, The cerebral symptoms associated with tetraethyl lead poisoning have introduced only an apparently new angle, I think, when we consider the symptoms and the historical literature associated wi th acute lead encephalopathy. I am sure I have seen cases similar to those reported in the Bayway, M.J. and Dayton instances before tetraethyl lead appeared on the scene.
The thoughts in this pamphlet, are, of course,
my own observations, which are open to full criticism by scientific
men at an^at^ia .and which I shall be glad to change in any respect
upon convincwMlr/'to better our bulletins for
publicity purposes SinnOhio as occasion indicates particularly as
we have been T^Dibwing"foods
diagnosis here described
(and with appa^&tiMjusJ*^^, to all) in compensating lead poisoning
cases for a number of years.
With kindest regards.
