I'll need a room for Tues. evening, June 4. I think you have my credit card number, but if not, you can have Buddy at Travel-on make the reservation - he's got the number for sure. Also, once you find out the hotel, can you please sent the information to Patrick Beatty, Tom Armstrong, Rob Schnatter, Rich Irons and Stuart Cagan? All are copied on this email to give you their email addresses. I will have Tiffany arrange a meeting room at the hotel airport and send everyone the details. How is times 9-12? Will an overhead projector be all we need for the presentations? Is there anyone else I should include in this meeting? Tiffany, Please arrange a meeting room at the hotel airport in Detroit. I think it is Marriott. Let's tentatively set up the meeting for 9:00-12:00. This will give the Dow people time to drive in from Midland. We will also need an overhead and a phone, and a call in number for Midland and oversees participants. Cathy, We will be sitting down with the researchers on the Chinese benzene study to be briefed in detail about the protocol. You are welcome to attend. Jim James J. As a matter of fact, I just sent an email to David suggesting the same date. I've attached the email, as an FYI. I'll try to get in touch (by phone) today or tomorrow to discuss further. This date works for most of us and we could either have the meeting at the airport or the Dow Automotive office. This would allow all to be on a plane by mid-day. Jim James J. I have been in touch with our exposure investigators, and June 4 will not work for them. Scheduling may take a little time, since Dr. Armstrong is spending quite a bit of time in Shanghai (he's there now). As soon as I receive a list of potential dates for a meeting (I think a meeting may required to address all of your concerns). We are of the same mind as you with regards to the information and the materials you will need to review in order to get an accurate assessment of SH ELL-MCCLU RG-055367 the reliability of the exposure numbers. Thus, we will provide you with more detailed information. Finally, thank you very much for enumerating your concerns in your email. With this information we can be fully prepared when we meet. I look forward to scheduling this meeting and further discussing the program. Regards, Lorraine Twerdok ****************************** Lorraine E. I have checked, and we are interested in discussing the API Benzene study / Shanghai Health Study. As I had indicated we have significant concerns with this study, not only for how exposure will be handled, but also concerning other aspects. We have identified Tuesday, June 04,2002 (8:00 AM-1 0:00 AM EDT) as a time at which we can have our technical experts available for a presentation and discussion on this study. If you think that additional time is required, I can check on our further availability. We have also made arrangements for this to be a teleconference at our Midland headquarters so that both our US and European based colleagues can participate. We believe that in order to address the issues properly, this presentation should be more than just an overview of the project. I have distributed copies of the presentation you made at our BTX VCCEP meeting last week. We are interested in a presentation of the scientific aspects of the studies SH ELL-MCCLU RG-055368 (our understanding is that three are planned), the status of the project, the difficulties identified and met, a description of the project organization (committees), contacts, agreements and expectations for buy in from governmental agencies, and the options for participation. In addition we would want to gain an understanding of how the scientific understanding will be improved. Also are there opportunities for modifying aspects of the project to address specific concerns? Cost is also a concern, especially since the cost and scope of the project appears to have significantly increased from the initial inception. We have received information in the past concerning this project, both in the US and in Europe, and do not feel that these issues have been adequately addressed or explained. The following people representing expertise in toxicology and epidemiology are expected to attend for Dow: Louis Bloemen Robert Budinsky Jim Collins Richard Kociba Lynn Pottenger Please let me know if this proposal for a meeting on June 4, 2002, is agreeable, and if we need to discuss additional details for this meeting.
