The minuses of tne previous meeting of May 12, 194?, Tintic Standard Mining Co. - The resignation of the Tintic Standard Mining Co., occasioned by tne fact tnat one Mine is now snut down, was accepted vd.cn regret as tne Company had been a charter member of the Association ana had given tne Association entnusiasoic support for many years. The secretary was instructed to advise tne Tintic Standard Lining Co. that in view of its long members.ip, it would be carried along as a member to tne end of 1949. The secretary explained tnat wnen tne membership of tne Tintic Standard Mining Co., is terminated a vacancy will be created on tne Board as Mr. James ,7. fade of tnat Company has been a director for many years. This vacancy could only be filled at an annual meet ing of one members. General Lead Manufacturing Co. - The secretary reported that throug.. correspondence witn tne General Lead Manufacturing Co., that Company had reconsidered its resignation and had decided to con N 612 Board of Direcc-crs Meeting Minutes -2- September 15, 19U9 Division program, in which it is greatly interested, would be revitalized.- KETTERING LABORATORY POSTGRADUATE COURSE The secretary read an invitation to him to speak at the postgraduate course on The Lead Problem in Industry, at the University of Cincinnati, College of Medicine, on November 7j 19il9, as per exhibit "A" attached. The secretary was instructed to accept the invitation and to pay his own expenses, if necessary. He was also instructed to provide the additional information requested in the letter. CITIZENS COMMITTEE ON THE HOOVER REPORT A letter from the Citizens Committee on the Hoover Report, requesting assistance in publicizing among the membership the desira bility of urging on Congress prompt adoption of the program, was sub mitted for consideration. As many of the member companies represented had received similar requests, it was felt unnecessary for the Association to take action. MINE PRODUCTION REPORTS The secretary reported that a number of the mining companies who had been contributing lead production data to the Association's Domestic Lead Mine Production Report, Form E, are now shut down, some indicating that the shut down may be more or less permanent. Hie requested guidance as to whether the completed reports should be sent to these mines in the future and recommended that this be done in order that reports from these companies might be more easily solicited if and when the mines reopen. The Board decided that the Association should continue to send the completed reports to shut down mines that had been cooperating in the collection of the mine production data. MEMBERSHIP SUBSCRIPTIONS Western Electric Co. - The objection of the Western Electric Co., to the high subscription rate for its membership in the Association, previously discussed at the Executive Committee meeting on July 27, 19^9, was again considered. At that time a ceiling of 1,000 was temporarily placed on the manufacturers of "assembled articles," in which class of membership the 'Western Electric Co. falls. The secretary was instructed to negotiate with the Western Electric Co. to determine what it considered a fair subscription, and submit his findings at a later meeting* L I 40 03 80 Board of Directors Meeting Minutes September 15, 19i$ VACANCY ON EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE The vacancy on the Executive Committee, created by the amendment to the By-Laws adopted at a meeting of the Board of Directors on May 12, 19U9, was considered. The Board unanimously decided to invite the Eagle-Picher Co. to be represented on the Executive Committee, thus filling this vacancy upon acceptance of that Company. ACTUAL STATISTICAL REVIEW The secretary suggested that a substantial saving could be made in the printing of the Association's Annual Statistical Review if the weekly reports of pig lead sales were omitted from the Review and only the monthly summary included. He felt that the weekly reports were of no particular value in an aanual review and reported that a saving of approximately 5175 could be made by eliminating the twelve pages which they occupied. The Board approved elimination of the weekly pig lead sales reports from the Annual Statistical Review, ROTATION OF DIRECTORS AND EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE At the meeting of the Board of Directors on May 12, 1919, the secretary was instructed to investigate the possibilities of pro viding for rotation of Directors and Executive Committee members of the Association. He stated that a study of the problem indicated both advantages and disadvantages. It was decided, inasmuch as there had been no particular criti cism of the present arrangement, no action would be taken on rotation at the present time. L. I. A. STATISTICS The secretary informed the Board that he had had frequent requests to release puDlicly more of the statistics of the Lead Industries Association. He stated that at present only the statistics of lead pigments are released for publication and that the principal interest among those asking for release of statistics was in the Weekly Pig Lead Sales Report. The Board decided that no further publicity should be given Association statistics at this time. Ll m:0381 Board of Directors Meeting Minutes -U- September 15, 19U9 ADVERTISEMENT ON HERCULES PLASTIC LEAD The secretary caLled attention to an advertisement in the ILLINOIS MASTER PLUMBER of a product called "Hercules Plastic Lead" advocated for calking soil pipe, among other things, and pointing out that one pound of "Plastic Lead" does the work of 10 pounds of calking lead* The secretary stated that preliminary investigation indicated that this product contained no lead and suggested that since the name is misleading the Association might file a complaint wLth thB Federal Trade Commission* The secretary was instructed to have the product anaLyzed for lead and if it contained no lead to file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.
