KEMI is the REACH competent authority in Sweden. KEMI together with the REACH competent authorities in the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, and Norway are currently preparing a proposal for a broad fluorochemicals restriction under the REACH regulation'. The exact scope of the restriction proposal is not decided yet. In terms of the restriction process, the default outcome is a broad restriction, however data and information may arise from companies in the process that forms the basis/definition of an exemption. We are writing to ask for your input into the ongoing uses of fluorochemicals (i.e. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, PFASs) and their substitutes, in the context of a possible EUlevel restriction on these substances. KEMI are responsible for proposing a restriction of fluorochemicals (i.e. PFASs) in textiles, upholstery, leather, apparel and carpets (TULAC). This survey is a key step in the data gathering process of these projects. It is vital for us to collect the relevant data and opinions (on chemistry, function, market data, substitutes and emissions), covering the full range of stakeholders involved in the production and use of fluorochemicals. Our consultant Wood previously contacted a colleague of yours towards the end of 2020 but had no response so are taking this opportunity to follow up and ensure we capture your views. Since attempting to contact your colleague, please note that the study is now at a more advanced stage, meaning the opportunity to engage before completion has narrow time -N_, constraints.
