Welch, assistant to the manager of the Metal Department, has been named manager of the Metal Sales Department, the appointment becoming effective Nov. 1. He has also been made chairman of the Metal Sales Committee, effective Oct. 16. Mr. Welch joined the Company in 1916. He served as assistant to Gen. Dill, general manager of D. S. Cartridge Co. until that subsidiary passed out of existence at the end of 1936, at which time he joined the Atlantic Branch metal sales staff. In 1939 Mr. Welch was transferred to Morris P. Kirk & Son for metal sales work on the Pacific Coast. He returned to New York Jan. 1, 1947 to assist Mr. Geatty in the Metal Sales Department. O'HARE TO DIRECT SALES OF CHEMICAL LEAD PRODUCTS Joseph A. O'Hare, for many years a metal sales representative for both Atlantic Branch and the General Office, has been appointed sales manager of chemical lead products. Mr. O'Hare joined the Company in 1921 in the Hoyt bardlead division of United Lead, and was in charge of sales of hardlead products when United was ab sorbed in 1928. Mr. O'Hare continued for some years with Atlantic Branch and in 1943 was transferred to the General Office as special representative for sheet lead and pipe in the industrial field. E. F. BEALE DIES AT 94 Edward F. Beale, who retired from the directorate of the Company on January 28, died at his heme in Strafford, Pa., this morning. Born in Washington, D, C., March 31> 1853* Mr. Beale had devoted practically all of his business life to the affairs of John T. Lewis & Bros. Co., Philadelphia Branch of the Company. He started with Lewis in 1875, became a partner in the concern in 1880, was elected secretary the same year, was made president in 1889 and chairman of the board in 1938. When Mr. B.eale retired from the National Lead Company board early this year he had the distinction of having served on the board since the organization of the Company in 1891. He was the sole remaining original director. Surviving in Mr. Beale's immediate family are a son, Leonard T. Beale, a director of the Company and president of Pennsylvania Salt Mfg. Co. and four daughters. CHANGE MADE IN NEW ENGLAND TERRITORY Effective October 13, the state of Vermont and the city of Fall River, Mass., have been transferred from Atlantic Branch to Boston Branch.
