Dear Wally,
You recently sent D'Lane Wisner some information on the FDA regulations for the use of Ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymers for food packaging applications. The specific reference is 177.1360. I would like to clarify a few points with you.
I am currently developing a PVC/EV0H blend for direct food contact. This is not a laminated structure but rather the EVOH is dispersed in the PVC. The is no "layer" of EVOH to measure. The surface of the articles fabricated from this compound is predominately PVC but may also contain small domains of EVOH at the surface. Would this fall within the FDA guidlines if we could pass the extractability testing of 177.1360 d (ASTM F34-76)? If not what test proceedures would be required? I would appreciate any information on this systems that could provide. If you have any questions please call, my extension is X1339. Thanks for your help.
