DeBernardi Date June 18, 1979 Subject Training Program Mobile Cranes and Rigging An area of job training which I believe has not received proper emphasis over the years at the VCM Plant is crane operation and rigging procedures. Both these areas offer significant injury exposure to Maintenance employees performing the work as well as potential for unexpected equipment damage that could affect plant operation. Over the past few months Bill Henry and Red Adkison have been looking for a formal means to better train our plant Maintenance personnel normally involved in rigging and crane operation such that skill levels in these areas can be im proved. We believe that Crane Inspection and Certification Bureau, a Division of Superintendence Company, Inc., can meet our training needs adequately. Bill and Red have worked out a training program with this company and received a proposal from them (copy attached) to accomplish the desired training. As is seen from the*proposal, it is possible to handle as many as 30 partici pants in the 3-day training session. Our plan is to present the course to all our Boilermakers as well as a few craftsmen from the Pipefitter/Welder group and perhaps the Instrument group. I estimate we are looking at training 13-15 VCM Plant people, leaving the possibility to include LCCP Supervisors or perhaps people from other Chemical locations in the training. My memory tells me that Aberdeen, Baltimore, and Oklahoma City have in the past indicated they had a need for rigging and crane operation training. I would appreciate your comments and suggestions related to this training proposal. If you are in support of it, we will move forward and obtain the proper approvals to proceed with the program. J.
