UNION CARBIDE CORPORATION :i ; .. ............................................... .. I BUSINESS CONFIDENTIAL 0. R. Hay 753 511 C. P. Maxwell R. G. Rowe, M. D. C. L. Ruddle R. E. Sergent July 23, 1986 HS&EA Industrial Hygiene Asbestos Exposure Monitoring Attached are the results of the Asbestos monitoring done on R. E. Smith in the 701 basement on July 1, 1986. The monitoring was done at the request of R. E. Sergent because of some concern that loose Asbestos from the service shaft was lying on pipes and the floor. R. E. Smith was monitored while shredding paper, she did not work with Asbestos and she does not wear protective clothing for shredding. The exposure monitoring results indicate that the levels are well below the 2 fibers/cc of air, established by OSHA guidelines, in effect at the time of the monitoring. Based on the monitoring results, we see no need for special precautionary measures whenever doing this job. The problem of the loose insulation is being addressed by M. A. Patel and J. D. McCue. Please advise R. E. Smith of her monitoring results and if we can be of further assistance, please call us on extension 4779 or 3750. WORK BY: Vance E. Stover APPROVED BY: Manhar A.
