Oil Absorption -- Penetration Index. It wax reported that the folloving material ha', been distributed to all those taking part ir. the Penetration Index I.o of Penetration Index . 2 Saaples of cccserdally available asphalt cut back (SC-0 &-S0-1} 2 Standard- fibre saaples Since some of those taking part in the Round Robin had not jet completed all their work, a discussion of the results yas postponed. 3. Fibre Strength Unit Test. It vas announced that the Cnifora Classi fication and Grading Casnittee has requested that the Technical CosnLttee reviev the Report of Inspection on Strength Unit Test, end to submit reccesaendations. Accordingly, the S.0. Subcommittee vas directed to study the Report and to submit recceaendatioas. j Mention vas nade of the need to apply a correction to each batch of cscent used-for the test, but it vas felt that this should be left tip to the S. U. Subcommittee. - _- 4* Filtration of Asbestos-Cesent-Silica Mixes: It vas stated that the work reported underway at the last nesting had been conpleted. It vas decided to postpone deliberation on the results in viev of the absence of Mr. R. Lefebvre vho has been closely associated with this study. 5. ASIM Caaaiti-o 3-30, Subcommittee HI: . 5*1 Surface Area Tast Group; 5.1.1 It vas reported that procedures had been prepared in ASM fozn&t by the Editorial Subcommittee and that final manuscripts vould bo sub mitted to balloting as soon as ready. * 5.1*2 It vas mentioned that a nev clasping arrangement, similar to the one used vith the Dyckerboff Cell, has been developed for the Rapid Surface Area Cell. The nev arrangement vas said to be a great isnrcve^nent. 5.2 Vet Classification. 5.2.1 It vas reported that a study of the Tiff Classifier is underway. Fractions collected by T k H and by Bauer McNett * classifiers are being analysed end compared critically. c * .1 ti I s i % -2 - 5.2.2 It vas stated that Tyler sieves have been'adapted ^to the T fc H classifier for 25 `and 50 mesh to get closer specifications on screen cloth. Efforts are continuing cs replacing the other meshes as veil. 5.3 Sampling. There was nothing to report. 6. Editorial Subccranittee: 6.1 Surface Area Procedures for ASIK.--It was reported that tbs tyckerhoff and Rapid Surface Area procedures had been rewritten in ASIM format and that final manuscripts would be made available shortly. 6.2 Central Source of Drawings and Plans. It vas announced that sate forty drawings and plans are required to supplement the illustrations shown in the Test Manual. It is the intention to turn over these drawings to tbs representative of the Quebec Department of H&tural Re sources, Hr. J. 0. Foy, to avail ourselves of their drafting sorricoa. It is planned to keep a stock of drawing available at the Quebec office of the Q.A.M.A. for distribution to members. ?. Freeness: Ho urgent problems were reported by members. Accordingly it was decided not to delve into this procedure at this time. 8. Q.S. Test Subcommittee: The problem of setting specifications on the 35 mesh screen has been turned over to the Doifcns Classification and Grading Cccpaittee in viev of the possibility that such specifications could be interpreted as constraints upon a standard test- procedure. < 9. Hew Business*"" 9.1 It vas announced that an overrun of eleven per cent had oecured in. printing the second edition of the test manual. Therefore those who or dered ttamwia will be supplied eleven per cent more books and will be billed accordingly. . 9.2 It vas reported at the last A. T. I. meeting that the ASW has re quested a review of their Tentative Method of Test for Magnetic Rating of Asbestos. It vas mentioned that Hr. J. P. Mronski acts as an observer at ASIH for the* A.T.I. It vas felt that some changes to the method of test might be required. , 9.3 Report of Activities at Ottawa. 9.3*1 Tlie representative of the Mines Branch reported on progress to . date with the system for measuring particle size.
