The U S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has set ] a tolerance level of five parts per milliion (ppm) in fish
sold in interstate commerce. Rhesus monkeys fed a diet 1 containing five ppm have developed liver disorders, skin
I lesions and and their young have been stillborn. Concen1 nations of the Industrial chemical have exceeded the lev i el in Lake Pepin, Lake Michigan and the Upper Fox Riv-
. The FDA has told commercial fishermen on Lake Pe
' pin they may resume limited commercial fishing for carp
five pounds and under. Datyl Brown, chief of the FDA
laboratory in Minneapolis, said carp in this weight class
are more likely to meet the tolerance level, but it Is not a
--Juarantee that they will. He suggested fishermen have
the fish tested before shipping them in interstate sale,
and estimated fishermen could to ship 70 'per cent of their
catch under these guidelines. //
