Machle Dear Dr, Machle: We have noted a copy of Ben Crane's letter of February 27th to you regarding two samples he picked up from the Texas Company tank Ho. 217S at Lockport, Illinois. These samples were Chi-139 and Chi-239* The Chicago Division has continually "been investigating the source of gasoline that went into the Cleveland tank where the accident occurred about one and a half years ago, I think the tank from which these samples were sent is the tank in which the gasoline was originally blended. You will note Mr, Crane states it is entirely possible to draw off sludge with the gasoline during tank car or barge loading opera tions, and it is my thought that possibly some Tetraethyl Lead was carried to the Cleveland tank in this manner. Very truly yours. W:GCL
