MADD Ve tentatively plan to have a seminar presentation from a MADD representative on December 12. The alternative (or the January safety meeting) would be to show the film "Room to Live". Ue would plan to have sign In sheets indicating your name and If you do or do not wear safety belts. He would later follow-up on the people who signed in. Mike and Mark plan to work on getting some signs made up for the parking lots with some kind of slogan on wearing your seat belts. Physical Fitness Program Betty Culbreth was present at our meeting. She had some very enlightening things to tell us about the low percentage of participation that the other plants in this area have had and about the program Carbide has already set up at the Nessler Center in Texas City. Sue, Shelly and Betty will design a survey sheet with questions about what people are interested in for a physical fitness program: stress management, hypertension, diet, exercises, etc. We plan to mail these out in the plant mail. The target date is the first of January. Family Safety Magazine Our recommendation was approved by Management. The new magazine, "Your Health and Fitness" will be out sometime the first quarter of 1985. A notice will be put in the Plant News. Off-the-Job Safety - Safety Fair Target date is March or April of 1985. Emphasis will be on health care and off-the-job safety. After the first of the year plans will be made to me with the previous chairmen of the MESH program to get there-tUeir inputs. OPR 3.84.0516 SC 14278 LAM014870 '86 Calendar Sometime In the 2nd quarter of 1985 we will have children of our employees do drawings of off-the-job safety for some kind of prizes. The drawings of the winners will be used on a 1986 calendar to be used plant wide. Attached is an outline of our future individual and/or group responsibilities. Sure, the laws in many states read as if they should handle the problem. They sound potent. But the statistics tell us a depressing story about the JUSTICE SYSTEM. Last year alone there were 26,000 victims, in 1980 law enforcement agencies made 1.4 million DWI arrests. Yet no national law enforcement or highway safety agency in WASHINGTON, D.C. has felony drunk driving conviction data available. WHO CARES? It's nothing more than socially acceptable murder. GET M.A.D.D.!! It is imperative that the public-at-large demand that stringent measures be taken to protect themselves and their loved ones from DRUNK DRIVERS! The statistics are staggering - more than 250,000 people killed by drunk drivers in the past ten years! It is time that the drunk driving problem is resolved!! We owe that to our children and ourselves because drunk drivers threaten or affect everyone - every day! MOTHERS AGAINST DRUNK DRIVERS (MADD) is not a crusade against the use of alcohol... only to eliminate the drunk driver from public roads. It's a goal we can achieve ... a problem that we can solve! Right now the issue of DRUNK DRIVING is neglected and tolerated! LET'S NOT CLOSE OUR EYES ANY LONGER!!
