We think Scott would be an excellent addition to the agency and have enclosed a letter saying so. You're welcome to use it as needed to support any future steps in his appointment. If you have any questions or I can provide you with anything else, please don't hesitate to let me know, Patrick Patrick Serfass Executive Director American Biogas Council 1211 Connecticut Avenue NW, Suite 650 Washington, DC 20036 1.202.640.6595 x366 (office) 1.202.904.0220 (cell) 1.202.223.5537 (fax) pserfass@ttcorp.com Growing the Anaerobic Digestion and Biogas Industry Find us on: the web | twitter I linkedin I youtube | flickr Is your digestate certified? www.digestate.org 17cv1906 Sierra Club v. Over that entire time, Scott has been a champion for both energy and environmental issues to accelerate growth of our industry. If you're not familiar, biogas systems take organic waste like manure on farms, wastewater sludge and food scraps, and use microbes to digest the material into renewable natural gas and valuable soil amendments. As such, the biogas industry is a part of other industries like food agriculture, waste, natural gas, electricity and fertilizer. Plus, since biogas systems provide some of the best options for protecting our environment--especially keeping nutrients out of our watershed and methane out of our air--the biogas industry is also allied with many organizations dedicated to protecting our air, water and soil. We are a real example of an industry that is pro-business and pro-environment. Scott is pro-business and pro-environment in a very genuine way. He can wear a suit to talk to financers and policymakers and then strap on his boots to work with manure and garbage. Scott has developed a reputation for not playing party politics and instead focuses on developing the best solution for the problem at hand. This has won over conservatives and liberals alike in our industry. As a result, Scott has shown he has a strong rapport with conservative farmers and utilities and also environmentalists and recycling enthusiasts. 1211 Connecticut avenue nw, suite 650 | Washington, de 20036-2701 202-640-6595 | info@americanbiogascouncil.org | www.americanbiogascouncil.org 17cv1906 Sierra Club v. EPA ED_001523_00000718-00001 Scott would not have been as successful as he has been in the biogas industry without these qualities. Our industry has a lot of democrats who are pro-environment and want biogas systems as a major solution to climate change, watershed pollution, increased recycling rates and more renewable energy production. And the biogas industry has a lot of conservatives who just want to run their farms and businesses without government intervention. We're thrilled at the prospect of Scott Nally being able to help Administrator Pruitt and President Trump lead the EPA to fulfill its core mission and values. Sincerely, Patrick Serfass, Executive director CC: Scott Nally 17cv1906 Sierra Club v. EPA Page 2 of 3 ED_001523_00000718-00002 17cv1906 Sierra Club v. EPA Page 3 of 3 ED_001523_00000718-00003
