This type of protection is necessary due to our doctors recommending Mr. Houston no longer wear a cartridge or nega tive pressure-type respirator. Several manufacturers and suppliers have been contacted to see what type of respiratory protection is currently available that will fit Mr. Houston's needs. The following table shows the various alternatives that we have to provide Mr. Houston protection: Equipment * 1. Since this equipment provides similar protection and since we currently use Scott equipment plantwide, we should recommend one of the above alternatives. LAM012151 Page 2 ( The equipment that is currently available from Safety Supply is recom mended for Mr. Houston's needs. The following is a summation of my recommendations: 1. Use hose-line equipment at those locations where breathing air sta tions are in close proximity to work where respiratory protection is required. 2. Use the Scott Presur-Pak Ila, rated for 30 minutes, in those areas where hose-line equipment is not available. 3. Require Mr. Houston to wear a Robertshaw Air Capsule at anytime he goes out into the unit to make his rounds. This weighs only five pounds and can be worn at the hip. This mask would be used in case of a release or spill and would be used only for escape purposes to get him out of the area. It would have to be understood that he would be able to leave the area and his services would not be required until he had other protection available. It is believed that these recommendations will provide Mr. Houston with the best protection that is currently available without imposing any undue requirements or restraints in the performance of his work. It should be added that if these recommendations are accepted, training, as well as fit testing, must be provided to ensure that he is able to wear this equipment properly.
