Glidden, as both a manufacturer and purchaser of paint products, will comply with the Food & Drug Administration regulations that paint products under the FDA's Federal Hazardous Sub stances Act will contain not more than .5^ lead by January 1, 1973> and not more than .0656 lead by January 1, 1974. Our Chicago distribution facilities will comply with the City of Chicago's ordinance, effective July 1, 1972, which prohibits the sale and use of coatings with more than .0656 lead. As one of our suppliers, we request that you state your position as to compliance with the FDA's regulations. If you plan to comply, we request that a guaranty be issued to us by you indicating that the products we purchase from you comply with the FDA's current regulations. A form of this quaranty is attached for your execution and forwarding to me. Regardless of the nature or source of the request, as of the above effective dates, you are instructed not to ship any products to Glidden that are not in compliance with either the FDA or Chicago laws.
