This reprint contains no hint as to the financial sponsorship of the investigation of which the work described here is a part, because of certain difficulties of communication I am forced to supply you with the correct information because of this omission. A broad program of investigation on the Metabolism of Lead in Man conducted for the past forty years in the Kettering Laboratory has been sponsored mainly by the industries concerned with the manufacture and distribution of lead anti knock compounds. More recently, Lead Industries Association joined these sponsors. The Research Grants Branch of the National Center for Air Pollution Control of the Bureau of Disease Prevention and Environmental Control of the United States Public Health Service has been a joint sponsor of the work since 1963. The American Petroleum Institute became a sponsor in 1966. I uo not expect you to spell all of this out in the Index. You can follow your own procedure in this matter, but it should be made clear that this long-term investigation has been supported primarily by American industry, with the recent addition of the Public Health Service to the group of sponsors. A series of papers has come out of the Kettering Laboratory from time to time, from various members of the Staff. The main body of information in these has been summarized to some extent in the Harben Lectures of 1960, a paper back copy of which, is enclosed largely because it has a fairly complete list of the other related publications. Those concerned with the inhalation of lead, including that.derived from the ambient atmosphere, have been few and brief, the two submitted herewith, along with the Harben Lectures, being the crop. The intention is to publish a monograph rather than a series of papers.
