Ordinary petro graphic examination of the untreated samples vill not raved the talk of the quarts present* and for c quantitative ectl.TX.te 1-ray diffraction analysis or chemical treatment should be employed. In determining the aaount of asbeetoa in the aasples chemical* _ petrographic* and 1-ray diffraction procedures vere utilised. The irca content of the tali sasple of enoslte* reported aa Peg0,, v*s 37.9 per cent* and by cosperiag thie value vlth the percentage tof Je^&v for a given aaspla* an estimate of the amount of asoelte in tksvmeaplo oonld be made. Zt should be noted that the bulk earpie of aaoalte was only about 73 per cent pure* since 23 per cent vas quarts, asd other eontaainantk also vere present* The determination of the chrysotile coaponent was based upon petro graphic study or X-rsy diffraction exeatnation or both. The Uses of the diffraction pattern of chrysotile are veal and quantitative values for that ninercl obtained by the X-rcy diffraction method are aorv or lees approximate.
