These increased safeguards, with hard deadlines, are aimed at protecting Michigan's waters, including the Great Lakes and other waterways. The news release and agreement are attached, as well as talking points and Q&As. Recent disclosures by Enbridge regarding the damage to the Line 5 coating beneath the Straits have underscored the need for improved stewardship of the pipeline by Enbridge and increased oversight by the State. Clearly, business as usual is no longer acceptable. Please note that the agreement covers every portion of Line 5 in Michigan, not just the section under the Straits. Finally, this agreement does not determine the fate of Line 5, but provides additional information and deadlines, which will aid in this decision. Please let me and/or Tiffany Brown, DEQ PIO, know if you have any questions. And, refer any media calls on this that you may receive to Tiffany. Thank you, H e id i/ CD.ireHcetiodri Grether Michigan Department of Environmental Quality Sierra Club v. EPA 18cv3472 NDCA Tier 10 ED 002061 00177169-00001
