Hope this helps! Dave, for attribution to "an EPA spokesperson," please: While state drinking water programs have the primary responsibility for overseeing water systems and monitoring their ability to provide potable water in the case of drought, EPA actively monitors the U.S. Drought Monitor (http://droughtmonitor.unl.edu/) and provides resources to help water utilities become more resilient to drought including developing the Drought Response and Recovery Guide for Water Utilities and offering multiple drought and water loss workshops on a yearly basis. I'm Dave Montgomery, an Austin reporter doing a story on potential water scarcity in the United States. I've been working with Tricia Lynn but she appears to be out so I'm circling back with you all. I've been trying to obtain reports or talk to EPA experts who could address that subject. I'm doing the story for Stateline, a national online news publication affiliated with Pew research, to try to determine if the same kind of crisis that confronted Cape Town, South Africa, can occur in this country. I've been told nothing of that magnitude appears imminent in the U.S. but that there are some worrisome trends, and I'm hoping that the EPA, as an important monitor of our water resources, can help me on that subject. I know this is short notice but I'm nearing the end of my reporting and am trying to get an interview and any research by Friday, March 29. I've been bouncing in and out of the story - I've been part of the New York Times team covering the Austin serial bomber - so Tricia and I have sort of lost contact. I feel your agency can be immeasurably helpful so I wanted to regroup. Thanks again for your help.
