The 1984 Maryland General Assembly mandated that effective July 1, 1984, employers "may not purchase any item of new or used asbestos protective clothing for use by an employee" and that "an enployer may not require or request any employee to use any item of new or used asbestos protective clothing that was purchased after July 1, 1984". The law also prohibits the sale in Maryland of any item of new or used asbestos protective clothing. After July 1, 1985, the law prohibits the use or possession of any new or used asbestos protective clothing in any place of enployment.
