Three groups of 6 male Crl:CD`s(SD)IGS BR rats each were exposed nose-only for a single, 4hour period to aerosols of the test mixture in air at concentrations of 120, 57, or 23 mg/m3. Rats were weighed and observed for clinical signs of toxicity during a 14-day recovery period. All rats exposed to 120 mg/m3and 3 of 6 rats exposed to 57 mg/m3died within 1 day of exposure. All rats exposed to 23 mg/m3 survived the exposure and subsequent 14-day recovery period. Clinical signs noted during the study included a diminished response to an auditory stimulus in rats during exposure to 120 or 57 mg/m3. In addition, rats exposed to 120 mg/m3 exhibited lethargy, lung noise, and labored breathing immediately following exposure. Under these experimental conditions, the acute toxicity described above appears to be reportable, based upon guidance given in the E P A T S C A Section 8(e) Reporting Guide (June 1991).
