Air sampling to document employe exposures to asbestos fibers was conducted at the Eagle Point Plant on. October 19, 1981. The sampling was performed by Mr. J. E. ScHlicht, Industrial Hygiene Technician, to evaluate exposures during the receipt and storage of asbestos-containing gaskets at the storehouse. The analysis result, as shown in the attached table, indicates that the employe exposure level is well below applicable standard.
The receiving procedure for these gaskets consists of opening the shipping box, sorting by size, and placing on hooks in the storehouse. The fifteen-minute average result of less than 0.13 fiber per cubic centimeter (f/cc) was based on a sampling period of ten (10) minutes,. The "less than" indicates that the concentration was below the lower limit of detection for the chosen analytical method.
The current OSHA standard specifies a ceiling concentration of ten (10) f/cc. that should, not be exceeded at any time, based on jsl fifteen-minute sampling period.
The sample was collected on a membrane filter using a calibrated air sampling pump. Subsequent analysis was performed by National Loss Control Service Corporation, accredited industrial hygiene laboratory.
