C. >* JC ' " - 'r-S Dear Mr.Poster: * 2 vm j aw ?? n ;o Confirming our conversation of yesterday, it was suggested that you call a meeting of the Joint Con ference Committee, consisting of your Department, the American Standards Association and the Advisory Com mittee on Standards (Mr. C. E. Wilson., Chairman), for the morning of Saturday, February 7th, 1948 at .Wash ington, D. C. 2f It is mutually agreed that through the coopera tive efforts of all concerned, an acceptable method of producing standards (other than factual) can be evolved which will be agreeable to all groups - producers, technical and consumers. To attain this purpose, it seems advisable that those directly in charge of formulating such a program and a satisfactory medium, should have an opportunity of meeting with each other. Thus, through a presentation of the purposes and intent by each of these members of the Committee, discussion will lead to a better understanding of the problem. Each will then personally better understand the objectives to be accomplished. Inasmuch as it is not the technical side of stan dards formation that is involved, but in reality the -policies4 of standards adoption as American Standards * it would seem that this meeting should consist of the executives concerned in policy-making - i.e., those of your Department, of the A.S.A. and of the Advisory Committee on Standards.
