FOR COMPANY USE ONLY DATE. June 28, 1972 TEST CONCLUSION NO. TA-C-. 72-233 OFFICIAL PRODUCT NAME. PRODUCT CODE NO______ None Proctor & Schwartz Spray Dryer __ POUNDS PRODUCT ACTUAI____ % AREA "Pnnsnl" .BUILDING NAME No. 743 TITLE Operational Know-How of Proctor & Schwartz __________Paste Nozzle_________________________________________ PREPARED r v ; L. C. Halejc4 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- PURPOSE OF TEST: To determine the optimum operating conditions to use in atomizing with a Proctor's Schwartz (P&S) paste nozzle. A diluent, Amisol 1988 was to be used in determining these operating parameters. RESULTS OF TEST: UU The test was never run due/the following reasons; 1. One of the most important variables, i.e., product quality, could not be determined from this test when using Amisol 1988. Effect of operating conditions on variables such as product redispersibility,' dye bath stability, shade, etc. could not be measured. 2. Since this T.A. was written, the P&S nozzle has been tested on several dyes. -Production personnel feel the operating conditions of this nozzle have been well defined. 3. The production time on this dryer has been heavily scheduled. The three days required to run this test could not be afforded and the backlog will not be decreasing within the next several months. 4. We have purchased a Lurgi two fluid nozzle for use in the P&S dryer. This nozzle is used where the P&S nozzle is not applicable. RECOMMENDATIONS: TA's comparing the Lurgi nozzle to the P&S nozzle on the same feed slurry (e.g., TA-C-72-455) should be run on dyes. These tests have the advantage of: (1) providing a comparison of the two nozzles in question using product quality as the deciding variable, and (2) utilizing full production time while running these tests.
