July 6 1964 (ye Travelers In reply to your letter of June 9th concerning Industrial Accident Commission Claim 63 OAK 11139 I submit the following information obtained in part from our records and in part from memory of the four jobs on which Allen Everitt worked According to the payroll information obtained from our Lancaster home office Allan Everitt worked for a total of 14 days in November and December of 1958 on Contract 271-213 on which Armstrong was providing insulation on ships being built at BethSl an e Frah ncie sco m shi' pyas rd Inasmuch as he worked only 14 days over a period of four weeks on a job in which ve began work in December of 1957 and completed in June of 1960 we CAN ASSINES that he was assigned to standard pipe covering duties and would have been called on to install Magnesia or Calsium Bilicate or High Temp pipe covering all of which contained small amounts of asbestos He would unquestionably not have been assigned to the fabrication shop or the pad shop where the materials used or where a very high of cutting of the pipe covering would indicate that more asbestos fiber would in the air In December of 1959 Allen Everitt returned to employment with Armstrong and worked for 8 days on Contract 271-711 in which Armstrong was providing and installing Polyurethane sheet insulation for DuPont at their Anticch California plant There In the last part of December 1959 and the first part of January 1960 Allen Everitt worked part weeks on Contruct 271-565 on which Armstrong was providing insulation for piping dusta and vessels on the Bank of Amarica main building in downtown Ben Francisco and providing identical insulations on piping ducta and vessels for the Department of Finance job Contract 271-563 in San Francisco Mr. Ivan A. Schwab 020 July 6 1964 the insulation was almost exclusively Fiberglas pipe covering and Odnucbtowthrajpobwsith some amounts of Fibrocel pipe covering a product made from expanded silica and to the best of my knowledge not containing any asbestos Being a short term type of employee we are confident that Mr. Everitt would have been assigned to the application of Fiberglas duct insulation which constituted a major part of both of these jobs it being our practice to apply . most of the pipe covering with our permanent type of employee and calling on additional manpower to do the easier type of work which would include the wrapping of ducts with Fiberglas blankets Fiberglas blankets or pipe covering would contain no asbestos at all being entirely glass fiber and phenolic resin binders It would therefore appear that during the 38 days that Mr. Everitt was employed by Armstrong that he would have worked only 14 days on a job in which he could have any exposure to asbestos fibers those being on the ship contracts I hope that this information will be sufficient for your requiremanta we will certainly offer any additional help that you feel we may be able to give Very truly yours Alan L.
