There has been a change of personnel at Thlokol. Joe Giordano who was supervisor of light construction and a good friend of Monsanto has left and a new man is Installed. Thlokol has done a lot for us in promoting our plasti N- cisers in polysulfldes and could soon become a signifi cant buyer of Aroclor 1294 (Ford sealant) and Santlclzer 160 themselves because they plan to sell formulated sealant as well as resin. Some time ago, we evaluated Monsanto plasticizerB in a carbon black polysulfide formulation (copy attached). Dan Smith - Joe's replacement - wants us to evaluate plasticizers in an uncoated calcium carbonate formulation. White or pastel shades are often preferred in light con struction sealants but Ca CO, is much poorer on water sensitivity than C black. (From personal experience, I've seen how poor polyBulfide - Ca CO, sealants can I be on water Immersion.) J I suggest we run tests on the following formulation: FHR Formulation LP-32 Plasticizer loo ) 19 and 4o i 100 Non-ooated Ca CO-j 40 ) Catalyst System: Lead Dioxide Stearic Acid Santlclzer 160 or Santlclzer 902 Sulfur HART OLDMON0029371 -2- Santicizer 902 Is the former Santicizer 1707. The following plasticizers should be run: Santlcizer 278/Santlclzer 26l/Santlcizer 160/ Santiclzer 902/Aroclor 1260/Aroclor 1294/Chlorowax 900/HB-bo plus any other suggestions you may care to mane. The following are the tests we need: V(Volatility for seven days at (70 c\and fe* C I Initial TS/B^ E/B and. IOC# ..modulus 0 TS/B, E/B and IOC# modulus after three and seven days1 Immersion in water at 120 F (fi>0 C),U A.
