R. Wise G. L. Wofford This was the scheduled monthly meeting. OLD BUSINESS Spring Inspection Responses to inspector's comments have been received from all managers affected. The actions taken to correct problems are satisfactory. W. R. Rolingson raised a question about venting solvent cabinets; this will be investigated. Safety Guidelines for Pressure Regulators Comments from Bob Hammann were discussed and incorporated into the memo. The revised memo will now be submitted to W. G. Juhl. Safety Audit of Oxo Lab R. L. Whitehead, John Garton, and Kay Wogoman inspected this lab and reported their findings in a memo to Jose Gaviria. No major problems were found. This inspection was made to resolve a particular question about the lab; the TCSC is willing to inspect other labs on this basis. Quarterly Inspections John Garton has prepared some guidelines for inspectors to use when judging technology labs. He will consult with Richard Bledsoe to include guidelines for the Monomers Lab. The list will be finished in mid-June. The decision to judge labs and offices separately necessitates a change in the schedule set up at the March meeting. The second quarter inspectors will be R. L. Whitehead (labs) and J. Garton (offices). Building Evacuation Routes Si Other Emergency Procedures S. Davenport reported on progress made. Evacuation routes are ok. Only slight modification is required for Control Lab in R2. Wardens lists are being updated by W. R. Rolingson. An evacuation alarm for the south part of R2 seems like a good idea to A. K. Uriarte's group, who occupy most of that area, and to the TCSC. SC 001657 LaM002859 2- - Alcohol _& Drug Abuse Program J. H. Cross reported his discussions with SHAC at their Hay 4 meeting. The program will aim to spread information on the problem of substance abuse -- its effects on the chemical industry and on the methods and resources available for treatment. Gene Wofford will start the development of a program by finding out how other companies ran programs and how successful they were. Other members of the committee will then make contacts later. NEW BUSINESS STOP Program G. L. Wofford reported that few green cards are turned in by Technology personnel. Pride Johnson pointed out one possible reason. A version of the program is being written for non-exempt personnel. Mark Riddle in S&LP asked that two Technology people be appointed to help. J. H. Cross will do so (Joyce Scott and Fred Adair were appointed). Hurricane Preparedness Program Gene Wofford suggests the TCSC develop a program similar to the May safety meeting at Chocolate Bayou which describes hurricane preparations for individuals and for the plant. The committee will try to do this the week of June 16. The proposed format is a speech from the National Weather Service, a talk on plant procedures, and a question and answer session. Dip Tubes in Hoke Bombs A request was made to put dip tubes in both ends of Hoke bombs to prevent filling the wrong end and losing the vapor space. The committee felt this would make it difficult to remove liquid from the bomb either as a sample or after washing. The bombs often have one end labeled "OUT". The person taking the sample can be careful enough to find which end has the dip tube and fill the bomb at the other end.
