Wright, M.D. PLAINTIFFS i EXHIBIT I JM-2178 A new law in the United Kingdom entitled "Health and Safety at Work, etc. Act 1974" requires thati (a) all descriptive and technical literature for asbestos- containing products have an informational type warning notice. , (b) all order acknowledgement forms have a similar informational notice (c) asbestos-containing products carry a warning label. Requirements (a) and (b) become effective April 1, 1975. The effective date for product warning labels has not been established. I enclose a copy of a Tumer-Newall, Ltd. internal memorandum which describes the procedure they are proposing for the asbestos industry in Great Britain. The requirements of the "Health and Safety at Work Etc. Act 1974" have been discussed with the Legal Department and the International Division. As a result of these discussions we have recommended that the following procedures be followed by J-M in Great Britain. (1) Effective April 1, stamp on all technical literature and on the order acknowledgement, an informational notice with this warningt "This product contains asbestos. In common with.all asbestos containing materials, it is subject to the requirements of the Asbe^c* Regulations 1969 and the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.
