C. Sayers, and in general I find that it is reasonably accurate. I do^not attach very much importance to the data on the incidence of asbestosis and death from asbestosis and cancer because these are merely tabulations of events and do not take into consideration the numbers of people who were subjected to the possibility.of the event occurring. . .. . ' We had been interested in the possibility that the short fiber Coallnga product "might have a greater hazard than the more conventional forms of asbestos because tub-micron silica has been known to cause a rapidly progressive silicosis after exceedingly brief exposure, we were concerned about whether the Coalinga material .with ios exceedingly fine fibril diameter might have a similar ..effect^ In causation of asbestosis. We therefore made some., preliminary studies in which the' material was injected into the belly. cavity of guinea'pigs, rats . and_ rabbits and also was Injected Intratrachealy by a method /which distributes the asbestos throughout the of rats. The materials injected were the standard fiber, a refined fiber.and a long fiber obtained from JohnsManvilie f o r p u r p o s e s of comparison. In the In-, jection study the^Doalinga refined fiber produced the . most severe reaction in the belly cavity, whereas the A 0 3 16 2 UCC.015637 1 / i sbandarci fiocr and aha Jchns floer 1 _ bi0 -- v/.c ci..a 3c^'. ore, *i4 -C*".r^,O0 r . *~**V w 1 o tudy i n aha lu n y aho crudo f i b e r s c 0n1 V.i n ...G_"V; wuJVaJ. .. .ciO-.j ^ - r __l;...; u i _ o e r via 3 i--a a m a a r a ac a.ac. r . *e: uonna h a a v i l l u i i ' m r v:as l e s s e r o a c t i v e .
